Embroidery on paper and fabric

I have been living in neighboring Arlington for 25 years and grew up locally. As I child I loved nothing more than drawing and doing crafts. When my sons were little we had an art cabinet and the joy of hands-on work stays with me today.

As a student at Tufts I took studio art classes at the Museum School and a semester in Paris gave me further opportunity to take studio art classes.

I am a former member of the board at the Arlington Center for the Arts and have participated in their Open Studios. I have also taught workshops at Arlington Community Education.

Artist Statement

I have always loved color and pattern and find that embroidery is a perfect fit for me. I take inspiration from my mother who grew up in Finland and was forever working on "the needle arts." I have also found myself inspired by boro stitching which emphasizes the running stitch.

I am very committed to working with "found textiles" that may include clothing, old linens and lace or other fabric. I often find inspiration in the layering of fabrics and buttons, enhancing patterns and color.
