My name is Peter C. Patalano and I have been a resident of Medford for the past thirty-six years.
I have always loved to create. My original calling was in the field of dog grooming. After graduating form The Dalton School of Dog Grooming, I owned and operated The Dog House, a professional dog grooming shop, for thirty five years.
My real passion, next to my family, is working with wood, whether it is the making of furniture or the turning of wood. I decided that when I retired I would devote my time to the turning of wood. My dream is to some day, besides turning works of art, teaching wood turning.
In the past year I have done many fairs. I enjoyed those that gave me the opportunity to demonstrate the creation of my art. These include: West Medford Open Studios, Arlington Open Studios, and the Topsfield and Marshfield Fairs.
There is something magical about turning wood. You get the satisfaction of taking a raw piece of wood and turning it into a piece of art, whether it be a bowl, pepper grinder or a pen. There are however, other media just as exciting, such as Corrian or polymar.
As a retired person, I believe that we all need a purpose in life. I feel that turning is my purpose. Hopefully, I will be able to create a work of art that someone will be proud to display and admired for years to come.
