Kanch by Kolika

Stained Glass & functional kiln-formed glass

About the Artist

Kolika is a self-taught glass artist in Somerville. She is a fan of asymmetric aesthetics and negative space. Her designs are predominantly inspired by Nature. She makes each piece individually over multiple days.
Her glass journey started accidentally as a reckless tween, playing with broken glass and ink, but that glass art evolved rapidly alongside her STEM career as she experimented with heat cycles, pushed boundaries in what more can be done, through extensive record keeping and an entrepreneurial attitude towards creativity, material research and community building. Kolika carries in her glass studio the same experimental, analytical, attentive practice that built in her lab.
Her glass leaves look real; her poppies are bold and meaningful; the hexagonal stained glass- intriguing. You will find her work in museum shops, galleries, art stores, and specialty culinary shops around New England, besides many homes in a few different countries. In her own words, “Kanch (Bangla noun: glass) is botanically-inspired glass home decor and tiffany style stained glass for bohemian aesthetics, joyful homes and occasions that call for meaningful gifts. They style best with al fresco dinners, occasionally splurge-worthiness, quiet mornings, lots of laughter around the dinner table and however one defines joy.”
